"Situated in the heart of Kilifi, Ua. House seamlessly blends contemporary design with the semi-arid landscape that surrounds it. The result is a home that not only respects the environment but also becomes one with it."

- Studio Mehta

Sitting creekside of the Takaungu creek in Kilifi, Studio Mehta has designed and erected a gorgeous Omani-inspired residential property in the midst of a carefully preserved and maintained coastal landscape. Using materials and aggregates within and near the site, the walls are formed from salvaged limestone covered with a pink-hued lime plaster (neeru) intended to complement the surrounding landscape.

Through harnessing the natural resilience of the local plants and the smart water management practices, Ua. house not only blends seamlessly with its surroundings but also creates a sustainable oasis that mitigates the challenges of its arid coastal setting.

We are always excited to work on a Studio Mehta project and it was no different when we saw the vision for Ua. house. Proud to have our joinery in this single-story pink-hued beauty, we fabricated and installed large floor-to-ceiling wood framed glass doors which open on either side of the lounge area as well as the bedrooms, to seamlessly connect the indoors with the outdoors while ensuring ample ventilation in the warm Kilifi climate.

Specially designed and fabricated adjustable louver systems were integrated into some of the windows to modulate air flow as well as control the light coming in from outside. With our signature finish of natural oils and waxes, the grain and hue of the solid Mvule timber stands out and complements the hue and texture of the exterior of Ua. House.

Furnishing as beautiful a home as Ua. house comes as no easy task. As such, there was none better to choose just the right furniture to complement the architecture as the architects themselves! Studio Mehta selected some pieces from our range, especially for the living room space, including the popular Sixties Lounge Chair, the Amani dining table and the Duara side tables in solid Palm timber.

We are always glad to push the boundaries of bespoke pieces of furniture and were happy to co-design & produce an ode to the villa in the form of the living room daybed, aptly naming it the "Ua Daybed". Made from solid Palm timber and upholstered in premium Warwick fabric, the Ua daybed is the perfect lounger for enjoying the sweet Kilifi breeze.

Finished in our signature natural oils and waxes, the beautiful grain of the coastal Palm timber on all our pieces are easy to maintain despite the harsh arid coastal climate.
