You can't really know where you are going until you know where you have been.
- Maya Angelou
After hearing vivid stories of the time his father spent in Kenya, a young Mr. Pritam Singh Main decided to
move from India with the hopes of experiencing for himself the magic of Kenya.
After a couple of years of work experience in various furniture workshops across the country,
he managed to gather enough capital to open up a carpentry workshop of his own in the coastal
town of Malindi, Kenya. He started out with a rented out shack that demanded
90 Kenya Shillings a month
and from this humble workshop, the raw talent of this dedicated man bore wonderful pieces
of furniture that found a place to call home in the high-end tourist hotels at the time.

Skip forward a couple of years and Mr. Pritam Singh Main's legacy would live on.
In 2010, Mr. Satnam Singh Seehra & his wife (youngest daughter of the late Mr. Pritam Singh Main) established Dumont
which is a family-owned and run business that began as an interior-fit out and renovation enterprise that primarily focused on the
hospitality industry with a select few residential projects. After a few years in the business, we decided to tap into our
maternal carpentry roots and fully indulge in our woodworking operations in order to revive our familial passion
for wood. Our woodworking department soared higher when seasoned hoteliers Steve and Nicky Fitzgerald
found their way to our humble workshop towards the end of 2014. We had an instant connection and the mutual understanding
for the need of unique, well-crafted furniture pieces led to the conceptualisation and crafting of bespoke furniture
for the world renowned
Angama Mara.
To this day, we continue to serve any of Angama's woodworking needs they send our way.

Since the genesis of the company, we've countinually tried and found ways to give back to the
community in our own way and towards the end of 2018, an opportunity presented itself. We were
in the process of completing a restaurant,
Kafe Koko,
and the main restaurant area needed a unique localised touch. That was when we got the idea to
commission a local street wire artist to create beautiful lampshades woven out of galvanised wire
for the main restaurant space. During this time, we got to talking with the wire artist and he
explained the tough working and living conditions he and his fellow artists would experience.
Those conversations inspired us to do something to help and that's when we started up a Social
Impact Program called
Waya.

At the start of 2021, we began our
Zero Waste Campaign
which is an internal initiative to reduce the amount of timber waste as a result of our normal production operations.
Offcuts that would otherwise be thrown as waste are carefully kept to repurpose them into beautiful pieces so that every
last bit of wood is used to its maximum possible potential. We are in a constant flux of development and aim to continue
to provide a wide range of products manufactured from the waste timber. The products that marked the genesis of this
initiative were a series of table lamps in various shapes and sizes. The range has grown to producing trays, drink coasters,
jewellery boxes and more. Proceeds from this initiative are contributing towards the replanting of indigenous trees all
over the country to restore our forest cover which has diminished due to the lack of continued sustainable practice.
With an ethos of rigorous prototyping and testing, we strive to create pieces of furniture
that achieve both impressive design & functionality and consequently, timelessness. Over
the years we have taken every opportunity to learn and adapt to various customer needs and
joinery requirements to be able to boast some of the best craftsmanship the country has ever seen.
We continue to maintain this work ethic in everything we do, sustaining a constant flux of
innovation, which has given us the ability to maintain a consistency in the services we offer and
the pieces we produce.
